Also known as the Black Madonna. It is said that St. Luke himself painted it on a wood tabletop built by Jesus. St. Helen, the finder of the true cross, brought it from Jerusalem to Constantinople where it remained for 500 years before eventually making it’s way to Poland. It sustained damage from a robbery attempt which can still be seen in the form of the slashes on its face. Read more at Catholic Culture.
